REHOMED -Hermanni (T.H.B.) females x 2 Southampton

Due to the owners ill health these much loved elderly females are looking for their forever home to retire to. They have had exceptional care and diet. Both tortoises have been with the present owner for 14 years with no health issues. They have been hibernated and have eating quickly on emerging fr...

Re: Speedy's busy day

Bex, for a first day out Speedy has done so well. The more she is out absorbing the natural UV the stronger and healthier she will get and this in turn will increase the amount of time she will stay in full sun. It is always best to offer both sun and shade and let them decide for themselves, but li...

Re: Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Is this when we say the gardens need it? I've seen Big Joe's enclosure that he has posted a link to. It really does do the job well, you can go bigger depending on the size of your tortoise and also add a 'lid' to one end if the rain is that bad. I learnt about Lumisol Clear from Big Joe, it is a he...

Re: When keepers get it completely wrong...

Thank you Joe and Paula for going the extra mile for these guys. I would have put money on this little one being a keeper as she was such a friendly little character. I'm glad you didn't as she has such an amazing setup to do what she was born to do and sadly there will be more knocking at your door...

Nina's Talk at Evolution Reptiles

This is a small snippet of a talk that Nina did for Evolution Reptiles earlier on in the year. I think you will all agree this was FANTASTIC: humorous, informative and an educational talk that will improve the lives of many tortoises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NDslIzpSN4&feature=youtu.be ...

Re: New Horsfield

Hi Andy,

Welcome to TTT.

What a beautiful little tortoise. All tortoises have their own "finger print" of a shell, this looks very healthy to me.

You should take a yearly picture of the plastron and carapace as this will be his individual ID.

Hermanni (t.h.b.) - Cumbria- REHOMED

This is a fantastic example of this species .NO paperwork: so a Gifting form will be written out to keep everything legal as required by Animal and Plant Health Agency. He has been looked after by his current owner after a family bereavement. This tortoise strolled into a garden many years ago and t...

Scruffy tortoise wears it well! She is a beauty.

I think she is just a healthy tortoise wanting to go and do what healthy tortoises do. Play in the sun, eat, drink, sleep and repeat. Tort after my own heart.

Thanks for taking the time to post,

Re: Scruffy Tortoise!

Come on, we need some pictures of these mucky tortoises. Laurat you could try placing some flattish stones around the water and food bowls. It doesn't stop it but can cut down on the amount of substrate that can be dragged in. Have you checked your temperatures lately? With the warmer ambient temper...

The present owner is very happy that this beautiful female and her companion now have their forever home. It's not to far away from them so hopefully will be able to keep in touch.

TTT are so lucky to have such compassionate keepers and members.

A very sad goodbye to Juliet happened today. And a very knowledgeable keeper said Hello to Juliet after an incredibly long journey to fetch this lucky girl.

TTT wish them a long and happy life together.

This is quite a rare look at an x-ray comparison between a wild tortoise and a tortoise in captivity.

Re: Horsfield tortoises share the nest

Lovely capture

I think in the wild they would naturally do this as a preditor can only eat so many eggs. Then again it could just have been our mini heatwave.

Either way busy girls,

Hi Nash, Welcome to TTT. It's refreshing that you are doing your research before they arrive. I use to keep Leopards, they are very charasmatic tortoises so you will enjoy your new arrivals I'm sure. Their diet should be 80% grass and 20% flowers and weeds. Ensure you add calcium daily as well as le...

That's really good Bex, this way it should be a very quick turn around and her gut will be clear. Perhaps the vet will mention this to the next customer as it is a big part of the worming process. Breaking the cycle. I think because they are so use to the process that they sometimes forget that to a...
