Re: Growth rate
Hi SilverWings, a very warm welcome and thanks for being such a hero. What a lucky little tortoise to have landed in your hands. To handle the weight loss and gain the only way to do it is to weigh and measure her once a week initially and then maybe fortnightly later down the line. By doing this an...

Re: Rehoming Info for Hermann Tortoise
Hi Laurat. Our usual way is to put it on FB as a rehoming and have it on here as well and then in a few days time we would forward you (or you can keep an eye open yourself) all the potential applicants and you do the sifting out and choose who you think is perfect to take on Vera. Its so sad when w...

Re: Indoor pond breeding mosquitos(?)
Hi Heather. I have just had a look for some suggestions and copied these what might help -- Install aeration pumps or a water feature such as a fountain in your pond. ... Run the water feature or the pump for a few hours each day. ... Stock ornamental ponds with native fish or minnows or with anothe...

Hiya Heather. Hope you had a nice Christmas and the year ahead is going to be good for you. Regarding Achillea and her behaviour. I had exactly the same when one of mine came out of hibernation, he was not eating, very lethargic and was being force fed!!! That was until one day she see my pink slipp...

Hi Teddy28. From reading between the lines I would agree and say its a male being a male. The warm substrate probably just felt like heaven for him. As long as there is no wheezing, bubbles from his nares or he starts seeking out and sleeping in a cold area I think he is fine. Keep watch and make su...

Hi Oxalis. So sorry for being late in answering this. I gave noting comeing into my inbox from the forum so its a bit hit and miss here. Hi Dot. I know that feeling with the male/female scenario. Poor little ladies arnt they. I can only agree with Nina's suggestion in having a slightly bigger area and deviding it to house the two seperate. Is there a photo of the table you have them in and is there space enough to make the living are...

Hi Bob. He has to come away from the shop boughts. If you find a nice dandelion leaf, just one, and wet it then cut it up small and mix it with a little of what you are giving him what would have already been wet. They will stick to each other and he will get some dandelion. Keep doing this daily fo...

Hiya. Adding to what Nina has said if you are refering to the plate that is just above the tail on the plastron has a bit of movement, then it is ok to have a little 'give' there, its quite normal. Providing he is eating a varied weed diet and not shop bought wet greens, running around normally, bat...

You shouldnt do Ripley. The house should be warm enough but a thermomiter will keep you up to speed with the min/nax temps overnight if you get a thermomiter with a probe and it stays above 12-14°C. Re: New Baby Tortoise
Hi Ripley19 . How lucky for you and your tortoise to have found each other. There are a lot of people that get a tortoise and are not as eager to want to look further into their needs and get them right so it is so nice to see you are going about it the right way for him. Bless, he looks so teeny. Y...
