Re: A Special Hermann Male for rehoming Carmarthanshire

Hi Jamie, Carol will reply to your message but I just wanted you to be awear. If keeping males and females together it should be a ratio of ONE male to three or more females. Still with plenty of room for the females to hide under bushes and grasses etc or else on a one to one it causes way to much ...

The elderly owners of Henry are finding it hard keeping up with his typical Horsfield antics. So have came to the hard decision to re-home him. Although they would like regular updates and pictures as he will be missed. Henry has hibernated successfully each yea...

Re: Pinworm

You could give your vet a call and see what she recommends Bex. When I have wormed in the past I normally do it before a deep clean. It takes me a good few days to empty my substrate so I worm, bathe daily, scoop any poop asap. Then just newspapers until the second lot is done. A few days after that...

ReHOMED - Hermanni female Carmarthanshire

A very reluctant decision has been made because of ill health to re-home my much beloved Juliet. Juliet is a very sweet little six year old Hermanni. She is a sedate, gentle and a little shy. When i got her she had some pyramiding due to incorrect diet, heating/lighting and her habitat was not suita...

A Special Hermann Male REHOMED

Ill health has forced this very sad decision to re-home Romeo. I am looking for a very special home for this very special boy. Romeo has not had the best start in life. He was found in a skip. His shell had been painted pink with nail polish (I have over time removed the majority of it). He was then...

Sorry that it's been so stressful for all concerned Be sure to ask for what they used and dosage. Then when you get anymore samples sent off you may want to try feeding them with the treatment on some favourite foods if it comes back positive. Did they say to keep on newspaper? Be sure to give a lon...

I do love the name choice. I also think it's SO important to get the torts in for a good soak.
Thanks for sharing this picture of your handsome Bernard.

Re: Homemade tortoise table

Hi Kate, Thanks for posting. I love the idea of the split level to increase space and activity levels. They are beautiful tortoises. Can I just mention a slight tweak? The hay in the bed box can and will harbour damp spores if and when it gets damp so I would just stick with the sand/soil mix (even ...

Hi Bex,
When you are there ask your vet to show you how to administer the wormer for future treatments.

Re: Tortoise wound healing

I'm on my fourth lot of antibiotics with one of my tortoises, so it's not uncommon to have a longer dose for a persistent condition.

Good luck, and I'll look forward to the update.

Hi Laura, I prefer the combination bulbs, especially Megaray ( just goggle the name Megaray for their website and Jo is very helpful too). Or Arcadia combination bulbs goggle Swell Reptiles for these. My only worry with a combination bulb is that it can't be controlled with a dimming stat. So you w...

Hi Beth, Even when I looked via my laptop last night I couldn't really see any more details. I couldn't post last night due to technical difficulties which have now be resolved. Lin did something to be able to enlarge the area and thought it still looked infected. I'm not that talented with computer...

Hi Beth, Fortrum with an F10 wash in my opinion should have overcome most issues.
I'll view the picture on my laptop later as the phone isn't giving me any details.

Re: Tortoise wound healing

Hi Beth, Like Lin I will be very interested to see the pictures. Six months is a very long time, did your vet do a culture swab to see which antibiotic it would respond to? Can you remember what antibiotic it was, Baytril? Did he give you anything to clean the area with once scabless? I think the ba...

Re: Testudo Graeca Ibera pics

Such a lovely picture Bex, might be worth sending off a poop sample since he hasn't had the best of starts.
Wormcount is an online company. It costs around £15 and they will email you the results. Or you could ask your local vet for a quote.

Hi Joe,
If you got this fellow wouldn't you think OMG he needs a good clean to get all of that off his shell and let the UV in? I would. But despite all of the 'coat' s/he looks so healthy!

Fantastic picture,

That's a good assortment you've got going Bex, I'm sure it will be much appreciated!! If under the stairs is like mine, doors either end, you could always make a double door I can't think of the name of the ones that are made of slats to ensure that there is still air circulating or just a wooden do...

Re: Indoor enclosure

Hi Bex, If you fitted a reflector on your UV strip it would at least double the amount of UV towards your tort and protect your eyes from harm. What are the other two lights? I'd pop some cuttlefish in there because they grow at such a rate this would allow him to top up on calcium as and when requi...

Re: Outside enclosure

Hi Janet, There are a few suggestions that come to mind. You could use light weight breeze blocks. These could then go with you should you move. Log roll is another option but you would need to pin this to a frame to avoid the tortoise lifting it and escaping. Many stores such as Argos do sand boxes...
