Re: Flipping over - anything to worry about?

They do take breaks during trying to right themselves Isabelle and they will also empty their bladder and bowels after a time. IMO these offers two things, it makes the tortoise lighter and it also gived some moisture allowing for traction. I dont know how deep your substrate is but do you think it ...

Hi Isabelle.
I know you have posted photos of your enclosure but could you post another one here so I can see if there is anything you could do to help.

Re: Worried about amount of food leopard is eating

Hi again Polly. I just thought of an idea to get your leopard to eat. It was a trick I used many years ago. This tortoise came to me in a bad way and not eating - Basically she had given up so to get her to eat, like you are doing I used to place a piece of plantain leaf in a naughty food, usually R...

Re: Piece/pieces broken off beak

Ah, if that is it I really dont think you have anything to worry about. Theres no swelling at all, is there? I think its just where the beak needs a slight trim and brush up and he will be good as new. After that when he feeds he needs the stems and stalks of food as well as the leaves and flowers t...

Re: Piece/pieces broken off beak

Hi Tina. Nina and I have been looking at this part of the beak and canot really see where you are meaning. Is it the part I have circled in red and the crack where the arrow is? Also can you send in another photo of the head, a birds eye view so that we can see the jawline from above and one shot fr...

Re: Worried about amount of food leopard is eating

Hi Polly. Along with the good advice that Nina has offered can I just say that once the temps are good, things should start to settle. With 31°C that is still a little high and wonder if a fan blowing around the area (not over the tortoise) would help lower the ambient temps. With you turning the he...

Hi Tina.
Would you be able to send in a photo of the area you are talking about. I doubt it anything to worry about but if we have a look we could better advise.

Re: Plant ID again please

Sorry Jo. Is there any chance you could take another photo so that we can see if the lilac flower is attached to the leaves that are prominent in the photo, and when you send it can you sent it larger than what you are sending them because they are extreemly small and we cant blow them up to a clear...

Sorry for the delay Jo. Again I find myself apologising for a poor internet service. I dont know what is going on lately.

However, yes this is one of the hardy Geranium and good to feed.

Re: Tortoise table question (new here!)

Hi Isabelle, and welcome to the forum and to the world of tortoise keeping. What you are proposing sounds perfect and it seems you have done your math on the temps needed. As long as she is secure from preditors, secure from escape and her temps are all good for day and night (30°C high and 18 to 20...

Re: Strange markings

Your right, it is not making sense. A trip to a good vet will put your mind at rest and you can be sure then that nothing is going on unseen. It seems to be taking quite a time to start healing. Have a look on our vet list to see if there are any recomended that are near your area. https://www.theto...

Re: Strange markings

Ah, thats a better one. It does still look like an injury to the large scale in the miggle of the head and it has died and fallen off. What we need to do now is have a vet check him over to make sure there is no infection there. Do you have a vet that treats reptiles, epecially tortoises. Its not so...

Hi Have you looked through the Rehoming Forum I think there is a few Hermanns on there for rehoming. If you are thinking about getting one in a few weeks and there are any there now it is always best to start the ball rolling just incase someone else comes along. Rehoming will usually take a week or...

Hi Jess, and congratulations on getting a tortoise. I know its not here yet but it will be soon. We do have a lot of tortoises ready for rehoming and newcomers are often the best choice for adopters. So thats level 1 you have passed  A wardrobe on its back would be a fantastic size for one tort...

Hi Summerillis. Ohh, its all getting exciting now. Dogs, especially whippets need 'mothering' and as you say they feel the cold so much. I love them but would be so scared they would break. Have you got provisions to keep dog and tortoise apart 'just incase' the worse might happen. Tortoises need ca...

Oh yes Michelle. Nina has got it right but I can say that Rats, foxes and birds of prey are all active during the day. And rather than leave abything to chance I would cover. Even if it is with a loose net laying acrodd canes with plastic cups to stop then sliding down, with noisy things tied around...
