It’s definitely worth reading the article throughout ..you must bear in mind on hot days my set-up will get very warm inside and I mean very warm..I recall when I was collecting temp info mine was hotter than Texas inside..and Texas gets hot ..water and shady areas must be taken into account Best re...

The build in the article is still up and running Nina,my Torts have been out since early April and will stay out until late September early October temps permitting..the limersol clear works excellently but will need a little cleaning now and then

Correct Nina..this is a very deep pond with natural substrate,they have had plenty of time to acclimatiz to their new home,I've been to some good ponds in Kentucky where maps are both summer and winter time,one winter the ice was so thick you could stand in it...how they survive in these conditions ...

Hi all ...beautiful female common Snapping Turtle picked up from the road in southern Indiana while on one of our Turtle trips,this time of the year the females leave rivers/ponds to find suitable sites to lay their eggs..unfortunately they wander on to the highways..Turtles and automobiles are not ...

Just checked for you on eBay and there's lots out there for sale..go for the new ones as I've mentioned..it's a lot less work.
Your need to seal them when your build is done,I've always used marine grade varnish to seal the wood..tough stuff and safe.

eBay Teddy..just picked up 3 yesterday..13 ft boards £12 each..go for the ones that have not passed the safety checks and cannot be used for scaffolding.they are new..no sanding for you,but you need to go and pick them yourself as you don't want any with splits down them..

Hi Teddy28 I've got to try to resize pictures to post for you,I've taken more of my Horsfield set-up for you,the green steel mesh was built at my workshop,welded mesh to L shape steel them powder coated for a tough safe Finnish,they are very heavy to lift,this was on purpose to make it extremely dif...

This is what happens when incorrect diet,habitat,husbandry is applied....female Mississippi map Turtle...little one was taken From the previous keepers along with two others that surprisely weren't suffering from MBD,apparently all were purchased at the same time but that doesn't sit still with me.....

Agree Elaine beautiful little Horsfield and shell looks fine..Andy excellent use of a towel during soaking ,gives the little guy traction rather than scrambleing about on a flat surface.

Hi laurat..where is Vera housed.. :?: when this is happening..Tortoise Table or outside set-up..I've never had a filthy Tortoise when they are outside nor have I ever seen a filthy Tortoise in the wild and I've seen a few..but kept in a Tortoise table yes all of mine will walk thru their water dishe...

This set- up was built a few years back to house two Horsfield males,bubba and Memphis..split into two as they are very very aggressive towards each other,built using scaffolding boards ,sealed with marine varnish..very very heavy and almost impossible to bust into,I'll get pics up of the steel secu...

Busy in the sunshine

With the beautiful spring weather this weekend miss paula and I got busy with the Horsfield set-up.
15 bags of new top soil,truck full of stones,Hebes and various safe plants...cold beer and all day to mess around.
