Re: Shell flaking :o

Tbh it didn't occur to me at the time to ask for a signed note, I should have. I do however have her number and some texts on my phone between us that are very clear she was gifted to me, so if it ever becomes a problem I think I'll be able to provide adequate proof. I am relieved he was wrong, I ce...

Re: Shell flaking :o

See, I saw that exact page, and at the top it says; "All Annex A tortoises require an Article 10 licence (A10) before any commercial transaction (sale) can take place. However, there is no requirement for a licence in order to possess an Annex A tortoise, or if you give one away as a gift."...

Re: Shell flaking :o

Also, I do have an additional question; being a rehome, Bella has no CITES paperwork and we scanned him today and found he also has no microchip. I was under the impression that as I don't intend to sell him or breed from him, I don't need to apply for a CITES certificate (which would then allow me ...

Re: Shell flaking :o

I'm very pleased to say that the vet was entirely unconcerned about the flaky bit. He said it could be because of his rapid growth, or the missing scute, or both, but as the shell isn't soft at all he's certain it's not infection or any kind of deficiency. He said to just keep an eye on it but it'll...

Re: Shell flaking :o

Hi, thanks for the input, now I'm even more worried

Yes I have a local reptile vet, I'll give them a ring tomorrow and get Bella booked in asap.

Shell flaking :o

I was giving Bella his evening shell scritches and a piece flaked off :o It was paper thin, and very small, half the size of my small finger nail, but what really worries me is under the remaining piece there is a spot of blood visible. I had already planned to take him in to the vets this week for ...

Yes I'm still in the pet shop, which means she's always getting spoiled rotten with new things to play with    I don;t know if you saw in the video, on the left hand side there's a metal ball, it's designed for guinea pigs and rabbits to put hay in but I use it for Bella's greens so s...

Bella Zoomies

Hey guys! Been a while since I posted last. Bella has settled in amazingly and is growing like a weed. With the poor weather this last week she's had to make do with being confined in her indoor house (the ground outside is a bit too wet right now :( ). I thought I'd share a video of her begging for...

Re: Random plants in garden

Beautiful, thank you so much! Can't believe I missed out 5

I just double checked 3 and you're right, it isn't actually trailing, there are a few small individual plants there. What I thought was a vine from it was a particularly long grass stalk!

Re: Overeating in enclosure?

Ah I didn't make the enclosure very clear did I, it doesn't have a base so it's basically just a wooden sided pen on the lawn. The lower side actually has a removable plank there, so all sides are the same height with all the planks in place. It's probably just over a foot high I reckon, she definit...

Overeating in enclosure?

Me again, more questions! Bella's outdoor pen is a repurposed whelping box (like this but 4ft x 4ft) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dog-Whelping-Box-Dog-Basket-100x100x30-high/323184461242?hash=item4b3f4b85ba:g:ObsAAOSwb2lcreQe I'd love to build her a permanent pen but unfortunately it's not my garden, ...

Temperature question

I have a question about temperature! I have a mercury vapour bulb that obviously cannot be used with a thermostat, so it took me a few days of adjustment to get it right. i suspended a thermometer probe to about Bella's shell height, so about 2 inches off the substrate, and got that to about 32, whi...

Re: Nutrobal vs Reptivite?

What is considered the correct calcium:phosphorous ratio? Looking at reptivites own page it's 2:1 which, under the reptavite section, you guys say is low? She does get calci-dust on the days she doesn't get nutrobal. If nutrobal is considered better I shall keep her on that (easy enough since we sel...

Nutrobal vs Reptivite?

Hi guys! I've been giving Bella nutrobal 3-4 time a week (alternated with her calcium) and, whilst she does eat her food with nutrobal on, it's not as keenly as perhaps without. I got a sample of reptivite with one of my snake products and offered her a sprinkling of that on her food today. I was a ...
