Purpletop is a close relative of Verbena, and there are some indications that this plant contains toxic properties, although we cannot be certain that it is harmful to tortoises.  Due to lack of evidence we advise you to err on the side of caution and either not feed or only feed in small quantities.  Do not confuse with the closely related, Lantana, which is toxic.
