Russian Sage contains the chemical thujone which, if ingested in high quantities or over time, can cause liver damage in mammals, but the odd flower or leaf fed on occasion should be fine.
Contrary to its common name, the Russian Sage is not related to the true Sages, which are in the Salvia family, and although it is said that the scent of Russian Sage is similar to that of the herb that we use in cooking, it is a different plant and should not be confused with Sage.
Flowers range from pale lilac through to deep lilac and occasionally blue.
