Despite the name, the Mexican Petunia is not related to the Petunia that we use in hanging baskets and the garden, as it belongs to a completely different family of plants. In many parts of the world this is considered an invasive plant and grows in the wild, but in the UK it can only be grown as a houseplant and it is safe for tortoises as part of a varied diet.
The majority of Ruellia species have flowers in shades of pink or lilac, but they can also be found in red and white.
