Spider Flower ( Mountain Bee Plant, African Spider Flower, Cleome)

 Feed Sparingly
  • Common Name: Spider Flower ( Mountain Bee Plant, African Spider Flower, Cleome)
  • Latin Name: Cleome; esp. Cleome hassleriana
  • Family Name: Cleomaceae/Capparidaceae
Although not toxic as such, Cleome requires lots of nutrients, so there is a possibility that if grown on fertilised soil it could contain high levels of nitrates, which it has taken up in the form of nitrogen in the soil.

As large quantities of nitrates can lead to anaemia and reduce the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, it would be best to feed this plant only sparingly until further research becomes available.

Flower colours also may be pink or lilac.
