London Plane (London Planetree, Hybrid Plane)

 Do not Feed
  • Common Name: London Plane (London Planetree, Hybrid Plane)
  • Latin Name: Platanus x acerifolia
  • Family Name: Platanaceae
The London Plane tree is so named as it was widely planted in London because the bark and the leaves of the tree have the ability to absorb and retain pollutants from the air (and the bark constantly peels off, thereby preventing the absorption of pollutants by the rest of the tree).

Because of the potential high pollutant levels it is best to assume that all parts of the London Plane are not safe to feed to tortoises.

The American Plane/American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), should also not be offered as food for the same reasons.
