Cotton Lavender (Santolina)

 Do not Feed
  • Common Name: Cotton Lavender (Santolina)
  • Latin Name: Santolina chamaecyparissus
  • Family Name: Asteraceae/Compositae

Cotton Lavender can cause skin irritation in humans, and is often used as a moth repellent.  The oil it produces is used in perfume, but is said to have toxic properties if taken orally, and so we do not recommend this plant for tortoises.

(N.B.  Do not confuse with the more familiar herb Lavender, which may be fed in moderation, or with Statice (often called Sea Lavender) which is toxic and should not be fed.
