Coneflowers may be distinguishable from other plants by their petals, which tend to turn backwards, making the cone shape in the center more pronounced. There are reports of this plant being toxic to cattle, sheep and pigs so this plant is one to avoid in the tortoise diet.

Flower colour is mainly yellow, but also comes in orange.

Do not confuse with Coneflower (Echinacea) or Sneezeweed, which have similar looking flowers; or with Black-eyed Susan (Thunbergia) which has the same common name, but is a different plant.
