Research is ongoing into citrus fruits as they contain a wide range of active ingredients, some of which may harm a tortoise, so avoid. There is some evidence that in cats, dogs, and horses citrus fruits can cause vomiting and diarrhoea, and it is likely that this would happen with tortoises too, as the sugar and acid in citrus fruit can play havoc with the tortoise's natural gut flora.  See Citrus (Tree).
