Persicaria is a member of the Knotweed family where many members contain oxalic acid which binds with calcium, thus preventing absorbtion.  It is also a diuretic so best avoided.  See Knotweed.  Although a wild flower, Persicaria is often cultivated and grown in UK gardens.
