• Latin Name: Chenopodium album
• Family Name: Amaranthaceae (formerly Chenopodiaceae)

All plants from the Chenopodiaceae family contains oxalic acid which binds with much-needed calcium, and prevents the tortoise utilising that calcium to make bone and shell.  It also contains saponins and hydrogen cyanide so best to avoid.   See also Good King Henry, Orache, and Tree Spinach.
